🔍 Work-from-Home (WFH) Cyber Crimes
🚨 How They Operate | 🔐 How to Stay Safe | 👮 When to Contact Cyber Expert | 🧾 Legal Steps

🏠💻 Work-from-Home Cyber Crime: Complete Guide

🧨 PART 1: Types of WFH Cyber Crime Scams (With Real Modus Operandi)

🔸 1. Fake Job Offer Fraud (Telegram/WhatsApp)

How It Works:

  • You get a message on WhatsApp/Telegram offering part-time work: “Earn ₹3,000 per day by liking YouTube videos or giving reviews.”
  • They send tasks and give small payment (₹100–₹300) to gain trust.
  • Then, they demand payment (₹1,000–₹50,000) to “unlock higher levels.”
  • No money is returned after this stage.

Red Flag:
Use of free email IDs, fake company names, poor English grammar, no video meetings.

🔸 2. Freelancing & Project Scams (Content/Data Entry)

How It Works:

  • You apply through job sites or receive email/text messages.
  • Fraudsters claim to offer projects like data entry, Excel formatting, transcription, etc.
  • They send a fake contract and ask for “project registration charges” or “software license fees.”

Tools Used by Scammers:
Fake offer letters, cloned websites, Google Forms, Google Drive links.

🔸 3. Crypto or Task-Based Earning Apps

How It Works:

  • You are invited to join a web panel or app for tasks: “Watch videos, click ads, rate hotels.”
  • You complete tasks and receive ₹300–₹500 at first.
  • Then, to earn more, you’re asked to invest ₹5,000, ₹10,000, ₹50,000+.
  • You lose the money, and the app/group disappears.

Technical Signs of Fraud:

  • APK installation required
  • No presence on Google Play Store
  • URL ends with .vip, .me, .club
  • Admins often use foreign names or numbers

🔸 4. Remote Access Scams

How It Works:

  • “HR” executive asks you to install AnyDesk, TeamViewer, or QuickSupport for “interview or job training.”
  • They gain access to your phone or PC and steal OTPs, UPI PINs, bank info.

Critical Risk:
Remote control = Full device control, including camera/microphone and banking apps.

🔸 5. Identity Theft via Resume/KYC Sharing

How It Works:

  • You share resume, Aadhaar, PAN, photo for “verification.”
  • Your identity is then used to:
    • Open bank accounts
    • Commit cyber fraud
    • Register fake loan apps or Telegram groups

Victim Issues Later On:

  • Police visit due to fraud from an account in your name
  • Your PAN is used for fake GST registration

🧠 PART 2: Psychology Behind the Fraud

🧠 BONUS: Real Case Study from Maharashtra

Case:
A Kalyan-based youth lost ₹3.2 lakhs in a “Crypto Rating Task Scam.” The fraud started on Telegram, where he was first paid ₹700 for rating 10 YouTube videos. Then, he was added to a “VIP Group” and trapped into investing ₹50,000 repeatedly for higher returns. No returns were given.
